Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Lexiglo (“Lexiglo”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Lexiglo mobile app, web app, and browser extension (together, the “Service”). Lexiglo is a multilingual reading companion that annotates text to help you learn languages.
Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information. When you create an account, our authentication provider (Clerk) stores your email address and, if you sign in with a third party (Apple, Google, or Facebook), the basic profile identifiers that provider returns. We do not store your password.
- Learning content. Text you choose to read or annotate, the words and phrases you look up, your saved study cards and decks, your reading history, and your spaced-repetition review activity.
- Camera-derived text. If you use the in-app camera to capture a page of text, the captured image is processed to extract text. We store the extracted text as learning content; we do not retain the photograph itself beyond what is needed to perform the extraction.
- Settings & preferences. Your chosen languages, proficiency level, theme, and similar app settings.
- Marketing contact information. If you sign up for our news & updates email list we collect your email address for that purpose. You can sign up without creating a Lexiglo account, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
- Diagnostic & usage data. Crash reports and product-analytics events recording key actions (for example, creating a deck or annotating text), used to keep the Service stable and to understand which features are used. We do not send your learning content (the text you read or the words you look up) to our analytics provider. See “Service providers” below.
How we use your information
- To provide and operate the Service — annotate text, translate words, and schedule your study reviews.
- To save your learning progress across your devices.
- To diagnose crashes and errors and to improve the Service.
- To communicate with you about your account or material changes to the Service.
- If you opt in, to send you our news & updates email. We send this only with your consent, and every email includes an unsubscribe link.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your learning content to target advertising.
Service providers we share data with
We use the following third-party processors to operate the Service. Each receives only the data needed for its function and processes it on our behalf:
- Clerk — authentication and account identity (your email and sign-in identifiers).
- DeepL — machine translation. The words, lemmas, or short phrases you look up are sent to DeepL to be translated.
- Fly.io — cloud hosting for our application servers, language-processing service, and database, where your account and learning data are stored.
- Sentry— crash and error reporting (diagnostic data; may include limited device and error-context information). In the mobile app, you can turn off crash reporting at any time under Settings → Diagnostics.
- PostHog — product analytics (usage events used to understand how the Service is used).
- Loops— email delivery for our news & updates list. If you subscribe, your email address is stored with Loops to send you those emails. Unsubscribing removes you from the list so we stop emailing you; your email address is deleted from Loops when you delete your Lexiglo account.
International data transfers
Our providers may process and store data in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards provided by those providers.
Data retention
We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your data from our database, instruct our authentication provider to delete your account, and delete your contact from our email provider; backups and provider logs are purged in the ordinary course. If you subscribed to our news & updates email without creating an account, unsubscribing stops the emails but your email address remains stored with our email provider; contact us if you would like it deleted.
Your rights and choices
- Delete your account. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app’s settings or at this link.
- Access, correction, and portability. Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or restrict the processing of your personal data. Contact us to exercise these rights.
- Crash reporting. In the mobile app, you can turn off crash and error reporting at any time under Settings → Diagnostics.
- Product analytics. We use product-analytics events on a legitimate-interest basis to understand how the Service is used. You can opt out of this at any time by contacting us; we will stop collecting analytics for your account and delete the analytics events already associated with it.
- News & updates email.Subscribing is optional and based on your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any of those emails or, if you have an account, from the app’s settings.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide notice within the Service.
